This building is near Newark, about 10 miles from where my parents live, and it has caught the attention of many drivers on the A1 i'm sure! It was built in the 1950's by the architect Sam Scorer who incidentally was one of my parents neighbours until he died a few years ago. It was originally a petrol station, but is now, horror of all horrors a Little Chef! A innovative, remarkable piece of architecture that is being wasted somewhat!

What a weird design. I'm not sure if I like it or not. It's a shame that it can't come to better use than that.
It was a petrol station? What was it called? I wonder if he made this design just to drag attention from the drivers - which would lead to an increase in customers?
I actually noticed this on Friday whilst driving back from Dover and it did catch my eye, but unfortunately the structure itself looked a bit dirty and run down. It also puzzled me as to why the structure had been created for a Little Chef, and then again even a petrol station. Maybe it was simply to attract drivers, but its a nice building that I agree seems somehow wasted at the moment as the Little Chef seems to be making no effort to capitalise on or work with the structure, or ever keep it clean for that matter.
